長蔵音頭とは？

■岡山県高梁市有漢町で歌い踊られていた"長蔵音頭"は江戸時代に天明の大飢饉で苦しむ"川関村"を命がけで守った綱島夫妻の歴史を讃え伝える音頭である。

■昭和後期に社会構造の変化に伴い郷土文化が急激に失われていく状況の中、当時の有漢の人たちは"四ツ拍子"という約300年前から伝わる有漢で最も古い音頭に"綱島夫妻"の物語を当て込み、それらの伝承が消滅するのを防ぐ為、"長蔵音頭"として昭和50年代に作られたが、その後、音頭取りが亡くなり後継者育成がうまくいかなかった事や人口減少、娯楽の発展などにより今から約20年前に消滅した。

■2017年に地域おこし協力隊として赴任したハブヒロシは、町に残る古い芸能を探している中でかつて"長蔵音頭"という盆踊りがあったことを知り、様々な資料や地域の協力を得ながら遂に "長蔵音頭"の再現に成功。20年以上近く途絶えていた"長蔵音頭"の復活に沸く有漢町。今後は精力的に町のお祭りなどでも披露する。 

収録曲について

■「長蔵音頭」に加え、岡山県三大盆踊りの一つであり、高梁を代表する盆踊り「松山踊り」「ヤトサ」も収録。それらは全く新しい音楽として、従来の音頭から大胆にアレンジされた形で演奏されている。各曲のカラオケ版も加えられており、自ら音頭を歌い楽しむ事もできる。

What is Chozo Ondo?

Chozo Ondo is a traditional song and dance from Ukan Town in Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture. It was created to honor and pass down the story of the Tsunashima couple, who heroically protected the village of Kawazeki during the devastating Tenmei Famine in the Edo period.

In the late Showa era, as local cultural traditions rapidly declined due to societal changes, the residents of Ukan sought to preserve their heritage. They adapted the story of the Tsunashima couple to the "Yotsubyoshi," Ukan's oldest traditional ondo rhythm, which had been passed down for over 300 years. This led to the creation of Chozo Ondo in the 1970s. However, the tradition disappeared nearly 20 years ago due to the passing of its performers, difficulties in training successors, population decline, and the rise of modern entertainment.

In 2017, Hiroshi Habu, a member of the Community-reactivating cooperator squad, discovered references to the Chozo Ondo while researching the town's traditional arts. With the help of various resources and the local community, he successfully revived the Chozo Ondo, which had been dormant for over two decades. The revival brought excitement and celebration to Ukan Town, where the dance will now be energetically performed at local festivals and events.

About the Tracks

In addition to Chozo Ondo, the album features two other renowned Bon Odori songs from Okayama: Matsuyama Odori and Yatosa, both of which are representative of Takahashi's Bon Odori traditions. These tracks have been boldly rearranged into entirely new musical styles, offering a fresh take on traditional ondo. Karaoke versions of each track are also included, allowing listeners to sing and enjoy the ondo themselves.
